Volunteer Coordinator - Full-Time

Department: Education/Volunteers

Australia Zoo has an exciting opportunity available for Volunteer Coordinator within their Education Department!

The Volunteer Coordinator has the primary responsibility of managing and coordinating all aspects of the Volunteer Program, as well as the volunteers themselves.

Tasks include:

  • Recruitment, selection, appointment and performance management of volunteers
  • Organise and undertake off-site recruitment drives/promotions as required 
  • Liaise with management, heads of departments and keepers 
  • Conduct regular performance feedback and review sessions will all volunteers
  • Database and personal information management
  • Co-ordinate and facilitate as required, special projects or group tasks assigned to volunteers
  • Creation of weekly rosters for volunteers in accordance to department requirements 
  • Establish new and build on existing networks with schools/universities/Colleges etc. relative to work experience program opportunities 
  • Respond to all telephone and electronic communications and enquiries from prospective volunteers
  • Assist the Education Dept with "Zookeeper for A Day" or associated support duties during school holidays as required
  • Work collaboratively with all education/training/volunteer team members


Essential Criteria:

  • Experience developing, co-ordinating & managing team programs and projects
  • Demonstrated ability in presenting, workshop facilitation & public speaking
  • Strong organisational & planning skills
  • Excellent problem solving & solution creation skills
  • Ability to work within tight time frames and across multiple tasks/projects
  • Ability to work holiday periods, weekends and public holidays
  • Computer literacy, especially MS Word, MS Excel, MS Power Point
  • Open manual driver's license


Preferred Criteria:

  • Relevant leadership, workplace training & development, sales/business discipline qualifications
  • Volunteer program leadership experience
