The IT department at Australia Zoo is primarily responsible for the management, maintenance and development of all Australia Zoo IT systems. To be successful in this role, you must have an expansive understanding of different IT systems and hardware.

Primary Duties –

  • Work in synergy with the IT Manager, System Administrator, Technical Assistant and Web Developers to maintain IT operational elements
  • Participate in strategic planning and development of ‘road maps’ that are aligned to the business organisational needs
  • Ongoing development and maintenance of all IT related infrastructure
  • Administer IT security and associated procedures protecting the business network, information and its data assets
  • Weekly reporting on department operational tasking, project management and relevant operational aspects
  • Support performance management of department staff and implement succession planning where appropriate
  • Ensure the IT department specific procedures are developed and maintained with updates as required
  • Coordinate rostering and timesheet requirements for the department
  • Support training and feedback for team members to ensure ongoing development within department
  • Coordinate and maintain in conjunction with IT team:
  • Gmail account
  • Remote web servers (Redhat, Plesk, PHP, MySQL)
  • NAS/SAN systems (SMB, NFS, ISCSI)
  • VMware ESXi
  • Linux servers
  • Windows servers
  • Routers, switches, VLANs, WANs, VPNs
  • Scripting/automation (Bash/Perl/PHP)
  • Wireless networks
  • Zimbra (Archives)
  • Interface with other departments to provide services such as web, database and operating systems support
  • Troubleshoot and assist promptly with any technical issues that may arise in related departments. (i.e POS system/email/server)
  • Perform daily backup and maintenance tasks
  • Configuration of network routers, switches
  • Installation of new software
  • Develop and maintain software and device registers
  • Develop and maintain equipment asset registers
  • Track maintenance requirements and make recommendations to keep the devices and software up to date
  • Ensure registrations, permits, licences and any other elements within IT that expire have reminders and are dealt with in a timely manner
  • Provide high level support to the IT Manager
  • Undertaking other duties as requested by Senior Management

Essential Criteria –

  • Experience in a similar role with leadership responsibilities
  • Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology/Systems or related discipline
  • Advanced critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities to create sustainable, cost effective and practical IT solutions
  • A demonstrated ability to work in a highly flexible environment that can sometimes involve time sensitive requirements
  • Proactively communicate with stakeholders at levels appropriate to their experience and understanding of the IT space
  • Must have the ability to learn new systems and develop the knowledge of products quickly
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Well-developed organisational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Current driver licence and own transport
  • Proof of Coronavirus vaccination (unless otherwise exempt)

Preferred Criteria –

  • Current 1st Aid qualifications
  • Any other relevant certificates involving Leadership, WHS, Information Technology
