There are 40 plus Koalas to care for in this section. As well as cutting leaf, cleaning and maintenance this team is responsible for Koala photos, animal and keeper handling, training and education in our amazing walk through koala exhibit.
We have some of the world's best horticulturists working right here at Australia Zoo, providing our healthy Koalas with their nutritious diet. Our leafcutters are very dedicated to cutting only the very best eucalyptus leaf tip to feed our koalas.
Kirsten joined our busy Native Mammals crew in July 2012 following 6 years experince at Cairns Tropical Zoo with Native & Exotic Mammals. Before moving into the captive animal industry, Kirsten had spent 12 years in the Royal Australian Navy.
Kirsten joined the Koalas crew full time in December 2012 and loves getting hands on with our furry friends.
Kirsten is looking forward to working with the many different species that call Australia Zoo home. Although she has no favourites yet, some highlights of Kirsten's day job include getting hands on with our naughty wombats and cuddling our cute koalas.
Brooke joined the Australia Zoo family early 2013, she previously volunteered for the Zoo and was doing such a wonderful job we hired her.
Brooke's love of animals has fuelled her interest in animal conservation and working at Australia Zoo allows her to combine both of those interests.
Sam joined the Zoo Crew in Jan 2016.
Sam has spent a month in South Africa seeing all of the amazing animals there and was able to be a part of a Rhino conservation project. At the Zoo you will find Sam looking after our gorgeous koalas.
Outside of the Zoo Sam enjoys going to the Beach, knee boarding, tubing, and hanging with his mates.
Laura joined the Zoo Crew in August 2016. Laura just loves our Giraffes. "They are such unique animals, gentle giants." Laura has also visited South Africa and has seen these majestic creatures in the wild.
Jess joined the Zoo Crew in August 2016. Having previously being a volunteer, Jess knows alot about the Zoo and our animals. "I love working at Australia Zoo because it provides an amazing platform to spread the importance of wildlife conservation and protection."
Kimberly joined the Koalas team in August 2017 after volunteering for 2 years at the Zoo. During her time volunteering she fell in love with the Zoo and the work we do. She said that she especially enjoys that she gets to work with so many amazing animals and loves knowing that we are all helping to make their lives better. In her spare time, Kimberly enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading, and attending dance classes.
Samantha joined the Zoo Crew in April 2018 as part of our Koalas Team. She volunteered at the Zoo for over 2 years and is excited to be a part of such an amazing and supportive team.
In her spare time, Samantha enjoys travelling and exploring other cultures and zoos.
