Australia Zoo is located in the lovely little community of Beerwah on the gorgeous Sunshine Coast. Everyone knows everyone, and the community groups and businesses really work together to make the town a great place to live and visit. There are a lot of people in Beerwah who really go that extra mile to help out others.
A tortoise can't go forward without sticking her neck out! This is the inspiration for The Harriet Award. Pastor Les Peel of the local Church on the Rise along with Glasshouse Country News and Australia Zoo award a prize to a valued member of the community who sticks his/her neck out to help others.
Wes Sutton leads a busy professional life as a Sergeant for the Beerwah Police Station and has been chosen as the recipient of The Harriet Award for his extensive work with the local Little Athletics club.
"Wes is brilliant to watch", Pastor Peel says. "He really encourages the kids. He's got a heart for it".
Well done Wes and keep up the great work with Little Athletics!
Our next big community project is Beerwah's Great Garage Sale on April 16th.
