Wooo-hoo! We're excited to announce the name of our newest baby rhino: Mango.
Terri, Bindi and Robert chose the name, suggested by Megan Wright via our Facebook naming competition, after reading about Megan's daughter who picked up a mango and said it looked like our baby rhino's head. Not only that, Mango also happens to be Bindi's favourite fruit!
Mango is settling in to her new surroundings well, where she'll remain under the watchful eye of her mother Inyeti, before she gets to check out the sights, sounds and scents of our African Savannah exhibit.
Rhinoceros Fact
Despite their name, Southern White Rhinos are actually grey in colour. The name is a misinterpretation of the Afrikaans word "weit", meaning wide.
Hi Moya! Mango has the occassional run out in Africa but not officially on display as yet.
