Here at Australia Zoo we are very proud of our ever-growing giraffe family! In 2013, we were thrilled to welcome the first ever giraffe born at Australia Zoo, baby Skye. Skye was born to mum Rosie and dad Forrest and was easily distinguishable on our African Savannah as the shortest giraffe of the herd...that is up until babies two and three came along just one year later. Tulip and Lily were the second and third giraffe babies born into Australia Zoo’s giraffe herd, and with just one month separating them, they are the best of friends and can always be seen keeping each other company as Australia Zoo’s two newest additions. However, newest doesn’t always mean smallest as giraffes stand close to 2 metres at birth and walk around within the first hour of being born!
Our growing giraffe family is evidence of a successful breeding program at Australia Zoo. With only 80,000 giraffe left in the wild, and their threats including poaching and habitat destruction – these beautiful babies provide countless reasons for us to celebrate.More Giraffe Information
