Star Finch
Check out Australia Zoo’s Star Finch!
Australia Zoo is home to some of the most spectacular birds on the planet, including the adorable star finch. Take a walk through our very own Rainforest Aviary for your chance to see these beautiful birds up close!
Star finches are found throughout northern Australia, from Cape York Peninsular across the top end of Australia and down the coast of Western Australia! They prefer to inhabit swamps, mangroves, tall grasses and trees!
Star finches are identified by their tiny stature, only measuring around 10 centimetres long! Crikey, they are cute! They have a stunning red face and green body, speckled with white spots.
Star finches are omnivores and will feed on small insects and grass seeds, often from an elevated position, rarely from the ground! They are a thriving species and are of least concern.
